And pray to god he hears you...

I have only posted a few times this week as our family was hit by some bad news. We found out this Thursday evening that my dad has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia). This has easily been the hardest week of my life. I'm not writing this post for sympathy and as I'm writing I'm thinking it's a little too personal but I've learnt a few things this week which really make me think. My dad is currently at the University Hospital of Wales which is an unbelievably big, learning hospital in Cardiff. When my dad arrived he had to have 4 pints of blood as his red blood cell count was dangerously low. He was then told that at one point last year the hospitals blood supply run out and they had a total of 4 bags of blood left for the whole hospital. When he repeated this to me it shocked me completely. I can't count the number of times I have driven past a blood drive and not even thought to go in and donate. Now I said this post wasn't about sympathy but I am trying to get some support, not for me or my family but for organisations such as The National Blood Service. I am totally terrified of needles and feel faint when I have blood tests! But I'm determined to go donate blood. The sad thing is that something this awful shouldn't have urged me to go do it. Yes I'm not a fan of needles but your body can reproduce the given blood so quickly and the chances are you could be saving someones life! The main reason why I'm posting on here is the chance that someone might read this and feel inspired to do something for themselves and others! (check me networking!ha) If you live in the UK I have linked the website in this post and at the top of my page where you can find your nearest blood drive. If I can get out of Uni' on time, I will be making my first donation tomorrow, wish me luck...

  1. This is an inspirational post. I always see the donation vans around but like you am petrified of needles. I really should just do it.I'm shocked to hear the hospital nearly ran out. Hopefully this will encourage more people to donate!
Most of my family do and I'm really proud of them. I hope you and your family are OK. xx

  3. I think you're completely inspirational to write this post, so courageous of you. We had a blood donating challenge at work just before Christmas to encourage everyone to do it. I really dislike the thought of it but it's such an important thing to do. Best of luck with it tomorrow, and sending lots of best wishes to your dad. He must be so proud of you for this xxx

  4. Well lovely, you have inspired me, I too have the biggest fear of needles, but you're right..I mean for a few seconds of facing fear why not attempt to help save someones life. I can't even imagine what you, your family or your dad is going throught right now, but you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
